Blank Sheet

In grade school I remember receiving a blank sheet of paper from my teacher with instructions to write my name at the top of the page. Perhaps we were about to learn a new set of vocabulary words or copy down a homework assignment. I don't remember, however that classroom scene has been on my mind lately and I have really begun to think about that blank sheet of paper in relation to my life.

If I had an opportunity to really create a blank sheet for a particular time in my life, which particular time would I want to choose? Would I want to recreate a certain year or ask for a do-over? How about using that blank sheet opportunity to rewrite a page in history, create the ideal career, increase sales in a new business.

What comes with the power to alter life in such a way? A certain level of risk, and most definitely uncertainly. If you create a shift in one area wouldn't a shift have to occur someplace else so that life could realign itself? Or we could end up with a Domino effect, each falling piece causing the next one to topple.

At this moment in my life a most important part of deciding what to put on my blank sheet depends upon whether or not I use pencil or permanent ink.

I understand why children are asked to use a pencil, because of the eraser. In the process of learning, error can occur and an eraser is necessary to make corrections, and even change and create something different. It takes a brave soul to use ink, or should I say a person who is confident and sure of themselves. A person that does a cross word puzzle in permanent ink falls into my brave, confident category.

Back to my blank sheet theory, after scanning a number of momentous moments in my life I am not quite sure what I would change or how I would make changes if the blank sheet was actually available  to me. This is the part of my thought process where I remember that I am not the one in control of anything and cannot pick or choose to make alterations to my life or anything else.

It is however, an interesting thought to play around with and I am glad to know it cannot be done. Yet if given the opportunity to create a blank sheet I would choose to address a number of areas of concern or interest to younger women. Thinking back to the beginning of womanhood for me there were a great deal of decisions made from an unsure and often uninformed place. I would enjoy helping someone else ease into a more conscious understanding of self a lot smoother than I feel I did.
The items on that list could be expansive, knowing how to choose a shoe that would not make your legs look even smaller or your feet even bigger, knowing the importance of selecting the right deodorant and antiperspirant... understanding how to ease into a room without making a scene (unless of course that is your intention), and how to make a great impression even in an unfavorable situation.

We all awaken with a blank sheet on a daily basis, and most of the time we have the option to pick and choose what to write on our page. Whether you plan to create a new scene for yourself or offer insight for someone else, remember, always write your name at the top of the page in permanent ink. We are valuable commodities and our experiences, thoughts and off the cuff moments deserve to be captured in the grand scheme of life through deliberate etchings and permanent ink.

Just a notion I wanted to share as I remain "In Waiting", and always "Expecting the Extraordinary."
