What is your art saying to you?
Have you ever walked into a home or business and immediately felt uncomfortable and just couldn’t wait to get out of there? Of course you have, we all have but we don’t necessarily understand why we feel this way. When we feel uncomfortable in any place it is because the Feng Shui is “off”, it doesn’t harmonize with nature and our own energy. This type of feeling is an example of “bad Feng Shui”. Conversely when we feel at home, comfortable and relaxed in a space we are enjoying the benefits of “good Feng Shui”. The things that make us feel ill-at-ease can be an unbalanced floor plan where the energy doesn’t flow, colors used within an environment that do not support positive energy, improper furniture placement, unbalanced elements, too much yin or yang in the space, inappropriate art work and so much more. Feng Shui is a multi-faceted discipline with many layers.
A big element in the Feng Shui of a space is the artwork and photos that are displayed. Do you have artwork that is not actually pleasing to you, yet you keep it because it was expensive or because a relative or friend gave it to you? You must pay attention to the way these things make you feel. Your home and place of business should support you. If your artwork or photos bring up negative feelings then they must go. Claim your space and make it yours. That is the only way you will feel supported. Otherwise you are setting your self up for negativity such as unhappiness, ill health, or unfulfilling relationships.
Here is a real life example. A client was turning fifty and really didn’t feel good about it. When she invited me to her home we did the normal first step. A “walk through” to assess the over all basic Feng Shui. When we
entered the living room I saw a huge painting of a young woman in her mid twenties. The painting looked just like my client twenty-five or so years ago. I said, “Tell me about this painting”. She told me that it isn’t really her but everyone thinks it is. I asked her how she felt when she looked at the painting. She said, “Depressed, because I no longer look that young. This woman was beautiful and still looked very much like the painting, but she wasn’t seeing that. She was only counting the years. She then proceeded to tell me that her ex-husband gave it to her AND he gave it to her after an argument . . .he found the painting outside a home sitting with the trash! So this painting wasn’t really her. It made her feel bad, her ex gave it to her AND it was found in the trash. Good Feng Shui? Absolutely not!
Surround yourself with what you love. If you don’t love something and it doesn’t support your happiness it is time to get rid of it. Clear the obstacles, so you can enjoy the wonderful benefits of good Feng Shui.
