Easy is Good Enough

I have a delicious little deck off my Room of My Own. For the last two summers I have carefully planted sort of fancy flowers and then gotten busy and forgotten to water them and had sort of fancy dead flowers by mid summer.

This year we were having friends come for the weekend and I realized that I hadn't planted yet! What? Everything not perfect? Me? Not likely! Since I was running short of time, I walked across the street to the hardware store and just bought flowers in colors I like with no regard for provenance. Radical! You know what? They are growing beautifully and look simply charming.

Lesson learned: Fancy is not always necessary -- colorful is.
