Hanging with the Grand

My oldest grandchild is staying with us for five days. I have two daughters, so he is my first experience with "male children" and what a fabulous experience he is! Because of him I laughed until I cried at his first T-ball game. Little boys much more interested in digging in the sand or picking flowers for the Mom/coach nearly brought me to my knees. Of course, in exchange I introduced him to riding trains and the El/subway in Chicago.

That was all years ago. He is now 12, which means he can finally ride in my two seater convertible.Today, on our way home from the El station we discussed the fine points of driving stick shift -- how cool is that?

I didn't have much of a relationship with my grandmothers -- one lived nearly 400 miles away and was nearly 80 when I was born, the other lived much closer, but times must have been different then. The relationship we have is a never ending source of delight...to both of us! Now that IS cool!
