What a blast!

Yesterday we went to see Shout! a non-stop show about the 60s told through music, clothes and stories. It was 90 minutes of incredible energy -- tons of fun, but not without it's poignant moments. I would definitely recommend it if you are in or coming to Chicago or if it heads to your area. I didn't intend to make this a review of the musical, but wanted to "set the stage" to tell about the fun around the performance.

The smart theater management was playing 60s music over the sound system throughout the theater. Of course, knowing there is no intermission, the ladies room was busy. It was a blast in the ladies room! Everyone came in lip syncing the song! It was like we were all the back up singers ! There were even dance steps being displayed! Laughter, sharing of what we were doing when the song was popular and major female bonding.

Petula Clark and "Downtown" were frequently the impetus for me to catch the El and head Downtown to Chicago during my freshman year of college. I felt so sophisticated and independent, discovering interesting haunts and places to get a Coke.

I still LOVE that music. When I have a cooking project going, you can be sure there is Motown on the stereo and I am singing along with a few dance steps thrown in.

What are your music favorites and memories?
