Know Your Power, Nancy Pelosi

This is an insightful book into the life and career of our first woman Speaker of the House -- just what you would expect. It is a quick read and does pay deep homage to her love of her family and their enormous influence on her life, from her parents to her grandchildren. Somehow in following her career, I had missed that she was a full-time mother, even though politically active, for the first twenty years of her marriage. Isn't it hard to imagine one of the most powerful women in the world worried about car pool? Because I am always fascinated about what it has taken for well known women to accomplish all they do, I was looking for some clear pointers. I didn't find many -- be true to who you are, work hard, be more than prepared. I thought that Ms. Pelosi did not emphasize enough the enormous dedication and discipline it took to learn all the background material she needed to have at her command once she entered the House of Representatives. Perhaps, having had five children in six years instills an enormous amount of discipline just to get through the day and focusing on a task is nothing new to her! All in all, an interesting read about a fascinating Silver Vixen!
